Product FAQ's
Preparation & Repair Super Roof Cement, Neoprene 66, Seal-Tex, Fabron & Seam-Star
What products should I use to patch & repair my roof in preparation of protective coating?
For level or sloped gravel roofs we recommend:
SUPER ROOF CEMENT
Super Roof Cement is an all-weather Roof Cement. Plasticized asphalt base with heavy glass fiber content to form extra paste-like consistency for sealing holes, breaks in roof mat, lining gutters and reinforcing seams. Can be immediately coated over with Wet-Jet or Silverleaf. Color Black.
Neoprene 66 is a pure synthetic rubber sealant of trowel consistency with resiliency making it the product of choice for critical deep surface cracks in roof. It has a 400% stretch. It should be applied only on clean, dry surface when the temperature is above 40 degrees F. Color: Black
For Built-up Paper Roofs (Built-up Felts, Mineral Roll Roofing, Composition Roofs) we recommend: An adhesive coating developed specifically for bonding fabron glass membrane to the roof mat. Use when it's necessary to reinforce cracks in the roof base - also for strengthening flashings, seams, joints. Sets up in 5 to 10 minutes (no longer) for embedding of Fabron - dries completely in 30 minutes. Covers at the rate of 1 gallon per 50 sq. ft. Furnished ready for use. Permanent repair. A woven glass fiber fabric, asphalt impregnated with tensile strength in excess of 100 lbs. per sq. inch - twice the requirement of ordinary cotton fabric. Inorganic, indestructible - will not rot, char, wear or tear. Reinforcement between the roof and coating. Recommended for stripping seams, reinforcing parapet walls, skylights, relining gutters. Always embed in Seal-Tex adhesive bond. Allow Seal-Tex 5 to 10 minutes (no longer) to set up before embedding FABRON. After another 30 minutes, apply finish coat of Wet-Jet or Silverleaf. Comes in 6", 12" and 36" widths, each 150 ft long. For Metal Roofs we recommend:
Super Roof Cement, Neoprene 66, Seal-Tex & Fabron
SEAL-TEX
FABRON GLASS MEMBRANE
Neoprene 66 & Seam-Star
SEAM-STAR
SEAM-STAR is butter-like in consistency for ease of application. Withstands flexing over long periods of time. Can be brushed over seams and fasteners for long lasting sealing before coating with White-Star Rubber Base Roof Coating.
Surface should be clean, dry and free of dust, dirt, rust and foreign matter. All cracks and seams from 1/64" to 1/8" wide must be reinforced with Seam-Star. Covers at the rate of approximately 75 lineal ft. per gallon. Apply 2" wide, 1/8" thick.

WHITE-STAR Exterior Coating for metal roofs and side walls
What is WHITE-STAR?
WHITE-STAR is a rubber base coating specifically designed for metal roofs and sidewalls. WHITE-STAR is made from select synthetic rubbers a UV inhibitor and an anti-oxidant. It cures as a seamless rubbery membrane inhibiting rust and corrosion. WHITE-STAR also insulates and waterproofs.
How long will WHITE-STAR last?
Estimated to last 2 to 3 times longer than the life of conventional coatings because of the special formulation of synthetic rubbers, UV inhibitor Tinuven and the anti-oxidant Irganox.
What colors are available?
WHITE-STAR is available in white, sandstone, metallic brick, green mist, graystone, autumn gold, horizon blue, metallic gray, metallic green, smoke red, natural brown and black. Standard colors are white and gray. Please inquire about the availability of colors by giving us a call at 250-715-0875 or send an e-mail to info@jimquaife.com.
What about color durability?
It is extremely colorfast and fade proof providing a surface that keeps it's beauty for years.
Will WHITE-STAR seal pinholes on metal surfaces?
Yes! And WHITE-STAR has the ability to "bridge" hairline cracks, maintaining a continuous waterproof membrane.
Is primer ever needed with WHITE-STAR?
No and here's where some of the major labor savings comes into play.
When do you recommend WHITE-STAR?
For metal roofs and sidewalls to improve the appearance, waterproof, prevent further rust or corrosion and to save on energy costs.
Do you apply WHITE-STAR on a new metal roof?
We recommend allowing a new metal roof to age at least one year first.
How long does WHITE-STAR take to dry?
2 to 3 hours to the touch. Throughout 3 days.
What makes WHITE-STAR unique?
Only WHITE-STAR contains the ultraviolet inhibitor Tinuven which prevents the sun's damaging rays from cracking, peeling or discoloring metal roofs. Over time conventional paints and coatings break down under the sun.
Only WHITE-STAR offers the anti-oxidant Irganox which extends the life of a metal surface and protects metal against the ravages of acid rain, airborne chemicals and pollutants that are known to break down conventional coatings and eventually destroy metal surfaces.
..."Last year we treated one of our leaky metal roofs with White-Star and to be frank, it has performed flawlessly ever since. In contrast, a rubber single ply membrane roof installed over a new building addition has leaked from day one."

Should I use SILVERLEAF or WET-JET? This is a choice you have on paper, mineral roll, composition and metal roofs. For gravel roofs we do not recommend SILVERLEAF. If the need is waterproofing, use Wet-Jet. For the EXTRA benefit of year-round insulation, use SILVERLEAF. Savings in air conditioning and on fuel bills will repay a substantial part of the purchase price. Is roof preparation necessary before applying SILVERLEAF? Roof preparation is essential for a good roof job of any kind. It’s important to put the proper foundation under the fine roof sealants you are using. What about Roof Primers? Many of our competitors recommend Roof Primer coats. However, through the use of built-in primers, specially blended oils, including Pinecel and X-5, we have achieved the same penetration into a dry roof mat with our coatings that competitive companies try to obtain with a 2-Coat System (Primer and Coating). Is it better to apply SILVERLEAF by brush, roller or sprayer? This depends on the job. For average-sized roofs, we suggest ordering pails and use either brush or roller. Seamless Spray is the breakthrough for cutting labor costs on the larger roofs. Contact us for more info about seamless spray versus brush or roller. How long does it take SILVERLEAF to dry? A medium-hard surface film forms after a few days. Normal drying takes about a month. Can I just patch my roof without completely coating it? We recommend you go for the complete roof renewal – this is the best long-term investment. However, we will quote "Patch" jobs ONLY if we honestly feel they will be sufficient at the time of survey. We won't waste your money doing a patch job, when we know it's not enough. How much will SILVERLEAF reduce actual temperatures? Our tests show that a black roof deck gets up to 140 degrees on a day when it is 92 degrees. The roof deck temperature of this same roof drops 24 degrees when SILVERLEAF is applied, giving a 17% reduction in temperature. Under the roof temperatures can drop as much as 15 degrees. Does a SILVERLEAF application dry to maximum brightness when first applied? No, will appear gray on application, especially in cool weather. But during its first month on the roof, the Silberline Pigment rises to the top, and maximum brightness is achieved.
Using Super Roof Cement, Neoprene 66 Rubberized Cement, Fabron and Seal-Tex Bonding Adhesive will turn the weakest, most vulnerable points of the roof into its strongest points. Such reinforcement is necessary to assure maximum protection.
This process has a track record backed by the manufacturer's 40+ years of leadership in the cold process roof sealant field. Our ONE COAT System gives you the waterproofing you need at substantial savings by cutting labor costs in half.
What is WET-Jet?
A specially developed roof coating that water proofs, extends the life of your building roof and improves the look of your roof. Used on Gravel Roofs (level or sloped) Built-Up Paper Roofs (built-up felts, mineral roll roofing & Composite Roofs.
Is roof preparation necessary before applying WET-JET®? Roof preparation is essential for a good job. It’s important to put the proper foundation under the fine roof sealants you are using. We inspect the roof for any necessary repairs that should be done prior to coating. For average-sized roofs, we suggest ordering pails and use either brush or roller. Seamless Spray is a breakthrough for cutting labor costs on larger roofs. On gravel roofs, what is done with the excess gravel after it has been removed from the surface using a stiff push broom? Get the excess weight (as much as 400 pounds per 100 square feet) off the roof. The roof doesn’t need this weight. With less weight, there is less strain and stress and with no gravel to accumulate tons of dirt, roof life is greatly extended. How long does it take WET-JET to dry? A medium-hard surface film forms after a few days. Normal drying takes about a month. Can I just patch my roof with WET-JET and not completely coating it? We recommend you go for the complete roof renewal, it's the best long-term investment.
